Our journey so far:

Hypospadias foundation started in 2008 as a small idea while Dr Singal and Dr Manish Dubey were discussing how to improve the outcomes for hypospadias surgeries. Quickly, they realised that they need to dedicate lot of time and energy to make this happen. Hence, they started setting up time to do dedicated clinics, create special patient flows, collect data about techniques & surgeries and outcomes, writing up articles on the website, meeting other doctors and even creating special instrument sets. With a concerted effort, the hypospadias surgery results started gradually improving from a success rate of 80% to 90% to a current success rate of almost 95% with less than 5% complication rate. In between Dr Singal collaborated with reputed hypospadias surgeons such as Dr Douglas Canning (late) and Dr Mark Zaontz at Children’s Hospital, Philadelphia, Dr Pippi Salle at Sick Children’s Hospital Toronto, Dr Pramod Reddy at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Dr Aseem Shukla at Children’s Hospital Philadelphia.

In 2017, Dr Mahmood Abbas invited Dr Singal to perform a few complex hypospadias surgeries at Ibn Al Nafees Hospital in Bahrain. Hypospadias especially failed hypospadias is a big problem to solve in whole of GCC region and Dr Mahmood was seeing lot of complex and failed hypospadias cases from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UAE who needed expert hypospadias surgeon to manage them. They hit it off immediately and decided to set up a centre of excellence for pediatric urology and hypospadias repair surgery together in Bahrain. Since 2017, Dr Singal and Dr Abbas have operated more than 100 hypospadias cases from all over the gulf region together with extremely good outcomes. They do a joint hypospadias clinic and operative list every 4 months in Bahrain.

However, a turning point came in 2020 when Dr Ashwitha Shenoy joined Dr Singal full time to take the focus on hypospadias to the next level. From Jan 2020 to June 2024, together having managed more than 1000 surgeries together, Dr Singal and Dr Shenoy have developed
