We did the initial teleconsult when their son was only 45 days old. They came for clinical examination to Hypospadias foundation when their son turned 6 months old. We examined the child in the OPD and found that along with hypospadias he also had small penis size. We advised for a hormonal evaluation to identify the cause of small size of the penis. The hormonal tests were normal, and he received two doses of injection testosterone before the surgery. The hypospadias surgery was planned in two stages with a gap of 9 months between stage 1 and 2. He had an excellent outcome after surgery.
Now 8 months after surgery, the family shares their experience with us
It was when our son was 11 days old, we got aware about his condition i.e Hypospadias. We were very upset and after grieving for a few days, we started to look for the right healthcare team who could handle our son’s condition. As my husband himself is a neurosurgeon he asked his colleague who suggested us Dr A.K. Singal. We then started learning about his work and hypospadias foundation and MITR hospital. As we live in Nepal, we got a tele-consultation appointment where he explained us in very detail how our journey would be throughout the surgery which was very much needed in our son’s case. Our son was only 1 month old around at that point in time. Our son had his first surgery at the age of 12 and half months. Throughout the 3 days of him in the hospital Dr Ashwitha was 24/7 available for us. She kept looking at our son’s recovery status. For me she was an emotional support as well. The second surgery of our son was when he turned 21 months old. This surgery went smoothly and was successful. Dr A.K Singal and Dr Ashwitha Shenoy were at their best. The whole process went smoothly, and we were very hopeful for a great result. We only had to stay at the hospital for one day which was so good for us. We could take care of our son and feed him and also our son felt very comfortable. The catheter was nicely wrapped so that there was no pain or problem for our son. Even after being very careful about the dressing, it would still need a redressing mostly because of our son moving around a lot. But that was still not a problem as Dr Ashwitha Shenoy was also there available for us as she would turn out any hour of the day to do the dressing for our son. On 10th day post the surgery the catheter was removed, and our son was a very free and happy baby. We were given very specific instructions by Dr Ashwitha on the post catheter removal care, which we did take care of, and the results were so amazing and satisfying. Our son had finally recovered in no time with the best result. He was urinating as any other normal baby boy.
